In 1936, Marcel Ott fell in love with a very old property in La Londe Les Maures, not far from the Mediterranean coast, known as Clos Mireille. Built by the Benedictine monks in the 18th century, the location is now a showcase of Provençal art de vivre.
Clos Mireille has been at the forefront of white wine production in Provence since the 1930s. In fact, until 2004, white wine was the only type of wine produced on the estate. The selection of grape varieties planted has now evolved to include the cultivation of grapes destined for the rosé wine.
The vines of Clos Mireille are planted in clay-schist soil which is free of limestone. It is particularly unusual for a vineyard to be located so close to the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the hills, and this is responsible for the inimitable character of its wines. The estate produces a rosé and a white wine, both of which are fresh and well-rounded, with a lovely taut, fruity character and a hint of salinity.
